Ingredients
Dough
- 1/3 cup milk, warm
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp active dry or instant yeast
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp salted butter, softened
Glaze
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
More
- 2 tbsp milk, to brush before baking
- 1 tbsp butter, to brush after baking
Equipment
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, vanilla and active dry yeast. Give everything a good mix and let it sit for 5–10 minutes or till the yeast is foamy and active.
- In another bowl, add all purpose flour and a pinch of salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix with a spatula or chopsticks until a shaggy dough forms and most of the flour is incorporated.
- Add the softened butter and knead till you have a soft and elastic dough. The dough should not be sticky but it should feel slightly tacky to the touch.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover and let it proof in a warm spot for 90-120 minutes or until doubled in size.
-
Punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Roll it out into a thin but not too thin sheet and using a round cutter, bowl or lid, cut out circles. Use a piping tip or bottle cap to cut out the centre of each doughnut.
Note: Gather any dough scraps, gently knead them back together, roll the dough out again and repeat the cutting process till all the dough has been used. - Transfer the doughnuts to the parchment lined airfryer tin and cover loosely. Let them proof for another 30 minutes till puffy.
- Brush the proofed doughnuts with milk and airfry at 170°C for 7–10 minutes till golden brown or bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 11–13 minutes.
- Remove the doughnuts from the airfryer and immediately brush them with melted butter and let them cool slightly.
- For the glaze: In a bowl, whisk together icing sugar, milk and vanilla extract till smooth and thick.
- Dip each doughnut into the glaze, letting excess drip off. Place them on a wire rack and let the glaze set. Once set, enjoyy!
